COTTAGE HOMES SCHEME
* GOOD PROSPECTS FOR SUCCESS meetlm; OF CITIZENS' COMMITTEE
Excellent prospects for the success of the scheme for the settlement of disabled returned soldiers at Sandilands were reported at the meeting of the citizens' committee of the soldiers' cottage homes scheme which was held in the Jellicoe Hall last night. It was stated that the cost of the singie cottages would be about .L'SOiK and that the amount aimed at lo complete the scheme was £20.000. lUcmbcrs expressed the opinion that when the public had the condition of many former soldiers brought before them there would be no difficulty in securing subscriptions, and the chances of securing assistance from art unions was also thought to be bright. Mr J. \Y. Beanland was in the chair and there were also present: .Messrs \V. E. Leadley, H. F. Fleck, A. C. Brotherton, A. R. Galbraith, \V. H. Wim-or. A. G. Jamieson, H. T. Stubberfield. J. Forsythe, H. L. Darton, H. Kitsori. A. H. Joseph, T. L. Drummond. E. F. Willcox, A. H. | Pai iitt, F. M. Robson, the Rev. F. T. j Read, and Bishop Brodie. I The Rev. F. T. Read reported on the deputation that waited on the Canteen Funds Board and secured a
; grant of £ISOO, provided that the : War Funds Council made a similar j pant and that there was a prospect I :of Ihc tyrant being increased to ! CSOOO. He had also waited on the J Minister for Internal Affairs (the ! Hon. J. A. Young) and had asked | for a share of an art union, but no- ; thing had come of it. i Mr Read's remarks were supple- | minted by Mr E. F. Willcox, who ; said he thought that the association's I | chances of securing £IOOO from a | inar art union, and further grants ; from others, were, brighter. • The chairman said that although ! ,'"■. 2f.).00() was aimed at, the scheme j would be started as soon as thev had j £4(100 or £SOOO. They could put ; half a dozen men on the ground then. Mv W. E. Leadley moved that the report be received and the deputation thanked for its efforts. He was confident the deputation which | would wait on the War Funds Coun- j cil would receive an equally sympa- j thetie reception. j : The motion was carried. j lli cl'" ; ""nii reported th it some' t hi i 1 d \ Mtc \ the si'e , 1 d t c \ uld hi | ' i ' 1 b i <jt ic j i 111 e t\ <_ i 11 i_ \ I i i lii i (r 1 i i'i < i n I \ i 1 I i il I ( d\ iir t i 1 i i > ( t ( I U 1 1 'I 11 I ! \ I I '' ' 1 ! i i i »i 0 e i lit T 1 i i i < t n I ill _,o \ uld it 1 i l 1 uih nit i nic ' i 1 i tri ii i i\ i u ) _, t t \ sie ii ' J i \ lii i i t He l I lilt 1 11 v ( Up V\ I 'cil i ' 1 e 1 th it 1* r 0 lie ti i nt n 1 di t i j ill i' I u i ( [ i i 1 if h ii 1 l II j 111 1"( l I L ' 1 t t | 1 Mi If 7 j 1 , 1 I 1} I 1 1 ' !
