LOSSES FROM STORM DAMAGE
POSSIBLE SCOPE OK RELIEF i The Government has not yet decided what shall be done to help farmers and fruit growers whose crops were damaged by the violent hailstorms of January, according to a statement by the Prime Minister (the Rl. Hon. G. \V. Forbes) last evening. The enquiry by the Department of Agriculture, he said, was not yet completed, and until thai was done the Government could come to no decision. The most that could be done in any case would be to relieve those who were left m such a financial position that they would be unable to carry on. said Mr Forbes. Others. of course, had suffered damage, but the loss was not so vitally important to them, and the Government had not the finances to help every farmer concerned. or to act too i'reelv. It was not yti known how many were likely to need assistance. That would be shown on tlie completion of the enquiry.
