NO REVALUATIONS OF PROPERTY
ASSESSMENT COURT SITS AT MOI'XT EDEX (l REiS ASSOCIATION" TEI.IOSiU.) AUCKLAND, March 19. An admission that he had not made any revaluations of property, but had allowed the previous valuations to stand, was made by Ewen Alison, jun., valuer for the Mount Eden borough, at an Assessment Court sitting this morning. He said he considered that the land had little or no value, people not having the cash to speculate. There were many objectors, and the court was crowded. Mr McVeagh. counsel for one of the objectors, asked: Had you any instructions from the borough council? Alison: No. I discussed the position with the Mayor, who said he thought it best to leave the valuations and rates as they were. "I was new on the job," he said, "and thought that the Mayor would be my best friend." (Laughter. ) In the rirst case, relating to six shops, Mr R. McKcan. SAL. said he could not accept the contention that property had no value. He reduced three shops valued at £165, £.125, and £125 respectively to £lO4 each. The other three shops, collectivelv valued at £220, were reduced to £125. The court adjourned to enable th* valuer to meet the objectors.
