MONDAY (Before Mr E. D. Mosley. S.M.> SENTENCE FOR FRAUD John Peris, a cook, aged 41, charged with obtaining credit by fraud, was convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for a week. Sergeant D. Hyland said that on. Sunday the accused engaged a Gold Band taxi-cab and made several calls at city hotels, incurring a fare totalling 8s 6d. It was discovered that he had onlv one penny in his possession. Sergeant Hyland asked that the accused be remanded until Thursday. to allow enquiries into other complaints. Mr Mosley said that since Peris had pleaded guilty he could not remand him. There was a loir; list of convictions against the accused. BY-LAW CASES The following by-law cases were dealt with: — Unlicensed Heavy Traffic VehicleMrs Verda Cunningham, fined £2 and costs; James Alexander Robertson. convicted and discharged. Cycling on the Footpath—Cecil Franks, fined 15s and costs. Parking Over Time Limit—Bernard O. Priddis, fined 10s and costs. Dangerous Speed—Reece C. Buller. fined 20s and costs: Michael Joscpti O'Malley, 20s and costs. Unlicensed Motor-cycle—Donald A. Swanston, 10s and costs. Failing to Signal When Overtaking a Vehicle—William Thornhili Evan-, convicted and discharged. VOLUNTARY APPEARA.N'CK Driving a Motor-cycle in a Dangcrour Manner—Harold John Pattison. fined 20s and costs. ' MAINTENANCE COURT. 'Before Mr H. P. Lawry. S.M.i On the application of Martha Chalmers, a separation order was made against John C. Chalmers. c:i the grounds of wilful failure to mairtain.
