! BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION ; At the annual meeting of the Adj d'ington Burgesses' Association last •evening it was statid that a number of I improvements to th; district had been {secured during the year. Although the j membership of the association had ; decreased, me-nbers were active in ;calling attention to any necr -ary improvement, and it was expected more ' than ever w.ould be done in the coming : year. The president (Mr B. Sloan) presided •over an attendnace of about 25, including Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., and representatives of other associations. . In reporting on the activities of the association during the year, the president said that most of the requests made by the association had received attention. The work d„..j for the district had been commented on and it i was pleasing to ..now that th" ; r efforts i were appreciated. ! Two functions had been held during jlhe year, but had not received as i much support as could have been de- | sired. Two challenges for the Reese iCup had been received, and several I more were expected during the comi ing year. The seeretan had given a | silver cup for competition among ; members and their waives, and this j trophy was expected to lend interest ,to the card games during the coming i year. ! The membership had fallen during I the year, and he appealed to those | present to endeavour to secure new : members. ! The report and balance-sheet, which .showed a credit balance of £6 15s. I were adopted. I The following officers were elected: j Patron, Mr G. Gyde; president, Mr B. I Sloan; vice-presidents. Messrs W. ;Baker, S. Wotton, and H. Henwood; .secretary, Mr T. Falkinder; treasurer, ;Mr E. Pariane: auditor. Mr G. Gyde; ; trustees. Messrs J. Moore and W. iHartigan: custodian, Mr T. Falkinder; icard captain, Mr B. Sloan. ; Burgesses' associations were watch ;dogs in the city and served a verv .useful purpose, said Mr Howard, who jwas invited to address the meeting. ;During the l.i years he had been in ; Parliament the Addington association Iliad proved one of the best with which Ihe had ,-ked. The Addington biir(gesses evidently realised that a man 'who entered public life had his time [fully occupied. | Continuing, in- iel erred to local ,'body administration, and said that he j would be pleased to attend their monthly meetings ana tell them all Jhe knew about tramway board affairs. {lf members of local bodies would I take the citizens into their confidence ; things world go much more .smoothly.
