„—+— RANGIORA At a meeting of the executive of Ihe Rangiora Unemploynieiit Committee yesterday, the chairman 'Mr W. A. Rowse> reported that he was unable to interview the Prime Minister • the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) when he was in Wellington, but Mr Forbes would probably be passing through Rangiora within a day or two. and he would endeavour to discuss imeir.-, plovment matters with him then. Ad-j vice was received from the Unemploymerit Board that the regulation regarding the furnishing of form 32 and 32a by relief workers regularly, was to be strictlv enforced. The Commissioner of Unemployment wrote advising that Good Friday. Easter Saturday. Easter Mondav, and Anznc Day would be observed as holidays by workers under the No. 5 scheme. Seven registrations were received.

KAIKOURA There was a large attendance at the dance held in the Suburban Hall on Saturday night, in aid of the funds of St. Patrick's sports. Excellent music was provided by Misses Monica and Mary Mackle and Mary and Ethel Wareham. Mr Hugh Smith was master of ceremonies. A meeting of the committee of the Kaikoura Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Saturday afternoon, Mr W. M. Acton-Adams presiding. Also present were Messrs W. F. Perrin (secretary), A. The president regarded the results of the show as very satisfactory, and remarked that it war regrettable that bad weather had interfered with the holding of some of the competitions. He thanked the stewards, committee, Mr A. Gooch and his helpers in the Drill Hall, and the women for their excellent services, as well as those who had assisted with the working bees. The dance organised by the women had proved successful and enjoyable, resulting in a profit. Special thanks were due to Mr Marl; Yaxley, who had presented three ofiice chairs and three seats for the public. The press and the secretary were also deserving of thanks. Mr F. 11. Flower paid' a tribute to the president on his fine organisation and services on behalf of the association. J HANMER agkUNGS j A crop of Garion oats on a j paddock of 57 acres at Hanmer Springs )' was threshed out last -week and averaged 75 bushels to the acre. The proportion of seconds was very small, the main sample being plump and bright. Swimming contests between the forestry employees and the staff Of the Queen Mary Hospital were held in the swimming pool on Saturday. The following were the results:—Relay race: N. E. Toder. W. Such. After making a couple of circuits the machine landed in a paddock on the plains. The landing was necessary to replace a burnt plug. The machine, which was a passenger monoplane, was piloted by Mr Butler, and was from Rotorua. The (light was resumed. The card tournament between the Fire Brigade and the stafT of the Queen Mary Hospital will be commenced on April 11. The contests held lust year were very popular, but were commenced late in the winter. This year it is hoped to be able to include the forestry employees. Chess and draughts will also be played. On Sunday members of the Hanmer Springs Fire Brigade and their friends held their annual picnic at the Hossack Station. A large number attended and an enjoyable day was spent in sports. Before leaving, Mr H. Heche called for cheers for Mr and Mrs Fordo Johnstone, of Hossack Station.

OURUHIA The formal opening of the Ouruhia Park gates was held on Saturday in the presence of residents of the district, and well-wishers from further afield. Mr W. P. Spencer, chairman I of the Ouruhia Park Committee, ex-pres.-cd the gratitude which the people of Ouruhia felt towards Mr James Dunlop and his family for their interest m helping to establish the park, and more particularly for the wrought iron gates which Mr Dunlop, on behalf of Mrs Dunlop and family had presented. Mr R. W. Hawke, M.P., member for the district, expressed pleasure at being asked to attend the ceremony, and hoped that Mr Dunlop would see the park flourish and become an asset to Otiruhia. Canon 11. O. "T. lianby and the Hev. J. Farrar (Belfast i also spoke of the value of the activities which the possession of a park made possible to people. Mr Dunlop had shown a tine spirit of generosity. Mrs James Dunlop performed the. openinr; ceremony, unlocking the gates and handing them over to tin- park committee as a memento of Die ceremony. DUVAUCHELLE The annual meeting of the United Bay Football Club was held in the Duvauchelle Hall on Saturday evening. There was a fair attendance. The balance-sheet was considered very satisfactory- A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr J. Duncan in a bereavement. Messrs C. Stewart, F. A. Lewthwaite, and the field captain were appointed selectors. It was decided to enter a senior and junior ! team in the competitions, and to hold ' the opening day on April 7.

Representatives were also present from the Grcenpark and Prebbleton districts. Mr W. He hoped they would have a j happy and successful time in West-; port, and asked them to accept a silver teapot, suitably inscribed, as a token of the esteem in which they were held by the members of the I Tai Tapu congregation.
