NO SOUTHERN TOUR
| VISIT OF MR B. SHAW i ! IMS AITOiNTMKN 1 1 I K ITINERARY 1 The arrangement of Mr George j Bernard Shaw's tour in New Zea- | land, mi that lie will not travel as i far .south as Christchurch has caused much disappointment in Christchurch. The Canterbury Progress League will enquire concernling the circumstances which have ! caused that decision. An official of the league stated yesterday that the enquiry would i.-e made because it had been reported, before Mr Shaw arrived in New Zealand, that the Government Tourist Department had been given a free hand in arranging the month's holiday in New Zealand of the distinguished visitor. If that arrangement was followed then surely the neglect of the South Island was inexcusable. Special attention was called to the announcement in a telegram yesterday that Mr and Mrs Shaw would stay in Rotorua lor more than a week and several days in Wellington. Following such a statement the added comment of the telegram that the visit to the South Island scenic regions could not be made because of lack of time at the disposal of 1 lie visitors was considered to be peculiar. Before Mr Shaw arrived in the Dominion it was announced that part, ot his visit would be used for a study of Maori life and lore, and it was thought possible that Mr Shaw was spending some time at Rotorua for that purpose. In the meantime the Progress League does not intend to make a protest against the Tourist Depart- > I merit's arranging of the tour until enquiries have been made. The subject will be discussed at the next [meeting of the league.
