Commissioner for New Zealand, Sir James Parr, announces that New Zealand has ordered 12 Viekers Yildebeest torpedo bombers. fitted with Pegasus engines. The first two will be shipped m June. 1 The most considerable accession o! strength to the New Zealand Air Force since its formation in 1923 will be made when the Viekers Yildebeest aeroplanes which have been ordered by the Government arrive later in the year. The machines are torpedo bombers of a modern type, and have been adopted as standard equipment by the Royal Air Force. It was announced earty in the year that ciyht machines were to be purchased and that they were to be divided into two flights, one for service at Wigram and the other at Ilcbsonville. The Yildebeest is a new type tor New Zealand, but is comoarabie with the Fairey IIIF. machines which have become familiar to New Zealanders. although it is a bisger machine. The two flights will be used for coastal defence. in conjunction with the army and navy. as well as for protection of the four main ports.l
