Leaving Duiiedin, where 7 lie alpine j flight had ended on Friday, the I Southern Cross was iluwn to Bal- ; elutha en Saturday morning, and j there, with the Oiago Aero Club's Waco as tender aeroplane, it gave jcyrides during the morning. Just after midday it left for Waimate. and the photographers and other passengers found the flight interesting, because flying conditions were not good. At first the Southern Cross flew over clouds for some miles, then Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith turned out to sea and came clown through the clouds, ilying parallel with the coa.-t. a mile or two out. as far as Oamaru. where the ceiling was not so low and he was able to turn inland. At Waimate there was more .joyriding, after which the Southern Cross returned to Christchurch, (lying low most of the way. Yesterday the machine was flown to Nelson, and to-day it was to go to Motueka. returning to Christchurch this evening.
