ICE SKATING

DEMONSTRATION IN CURLSTCIILRCH As announced in "The Preys' several weeks ago. a company has been formed for the introduction to New Zealand of ice skating, and Christchurch will bo the first centre to have an opportunity of indulging in the pastime. Premises have been secured in the city, and the company intends to build a complete synthetic ice floor. Yesterday ufternoon two skaters gave a sample of the ice a further trial, and their clever evolutions and speed showed the possibilities tor the practise of blade skating in the city without the difficulties of transport and discomfort that beset the "real ice" enthusiast. The "ice" is the invention of a German scientist. It has the appearance of real ice, but docs not involve the costly upkeep of the frozen floors that have been popular for several years in England and on the Continent. The company hopes to introduce ice hockey as well as ordinary skating.
