SUMMER SPORTS

♦ PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAY END OF SEASON APPROACHES The season for summer sports is nearly finished, and the finals in several competitions will be begun today. By its defeat of St. Albans in the round concluded last Saturday, the West Christchurch cricket team practically assured itself of the championship for the season. Notwithstanding this, interest in the final round to-day will be keen, for the next three teams, Riccarton, Lancaster Park, and St. Albans are separated by margins of only one point. The matches and grounds will be:—Old Boys v. West Christchurch, at Hagley Oval No. 1; Lancaster Park v. Old Collegians, at Rugby Park (middle); St. Albans v. Riccarton, at Hagley No. 2; East Christchurch v. Sydenham, at Lancaster Park No. 1. The final round of the Suburban Association's competitions will also be begun to-day. the senior matches being:— Mairchau v. Sunnyside, at Sunnyside; Shirley v. Beckenham, at Richmond: Working Men's Club v. Railway, at Linwood.

Lawn Tennis There will be many attractions lor lawn tennis enthusiasts at Wilding Park to-day. In addition to the representative match between South Canterbury and Canterbury, the finals of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's A, B, and C grade competitions will be played, ana the inter-club championship tournament —open to players other than of senior standard —will be continued. In the morning, too, the Canterbury Junior Lawn Tennis Association's intcr-sccondary schools' championship tournament will be continued on the hard courts. The teams in the representative match, commencing at lp a.m., will be as follows: South Canterbury: W. G. Robertson, G. C. Reid, W. E. Renton, J. Sattcrthwaite, C. S. Hammond, N. T. Satterthwaite, Mrs W. A. Scott, Misses M. Gibson, R. Rolleston. N. Sullivan, D. Smythe, and M. Bridges. Canterbury: T. Rhodes-Williams, 11. A. Barnett, B. A. Barrer, H. Dymond, A. 71. Cant, H. S. P. Andrews, Misses E. Rudkin, M. Wake, T. Poole, I, Poole, N. Bishop, and M. Sherris. Special interest will attach to the first men's singles between Robertson and Rhodes-Williams, as. by agreement, this match will decide the holder of the South Canterbury men's singles championship, postponed from Christmas. The grade finals will be ns follows: — A grade—Cathedral v. St. Mary's. 13 grade—Sprcydon v. Opawa. C grade—Shirley v. Opawa 11. Athletics Particular interest attaches to the last of the series of inter-club athletic meetings, to be held at Lancaster Park to-day. Although the aggregate points of the clubs are now counted in hundreds there is little between any of the teams. Technical is leading, but it is expected that University with its runners all in training for the inter-Uni-versity tournament will field a biv team and make a strong bid for first place. The sections for the day will be: Section I.: Sumner, Old Boys, Sydenham. Celtic, New Brighton. Section II.: Technical, University, Kaiapoi, Rangiora, Presbyterian, Canterbury. The meeting will begin at 2 p.m.

Bowls The final of the Christehurch Bowling Centre's champion of champion pairs competition will be played on the Christehurch green between I.inwood (Kinvit* and Wilson, :\> and Sunnyside iPurrlio and Callaghan. s.). The mutch will begin at 2.D0 p.m. Then l will also be club competitions on other city and suburban greens. The Canterbury Yacht, and Motor Boat Club will hold a race for 7. class boats for the Mollor Cup and a race for old time skippers. Followers of swimming will be catered for by a club carnival at the Phillipstown baths.
