Mr George Gould and Mr John Montgomery returned to Christchurch from Hanmer Springs last evening. The Hon. Mark Fagan, M.L.C., arrived from the north by the Waiiine yesterday morning. The Rev. S. Nixon, of Pukerau, Southland, is spending' his annual holiday at Killinchy. Mr Lancelot Watson (Oxford) was a passenger by the Wahine last night for Wellington to attend the Methodist conference. Passengers from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning included Messrs J. D. Spedding, M. O'Brien, and C. Parsloe. Mr H. H. Sterling, chairman of the Railways Board, arrived at Hanmer Springs last night and v/ill address the Press Conference to-mor-row. Mr H. Lane was elected a life member of the Addington Public Library at the annual meeting last evening. At the meeting of the management committee of the Suburban Cricket Association on Tuesday evening, a motion of sympathy with Mr S. Marks and family was carried. The Rev. G. A. Young, formerly vicar of Foxton, New Zealand, has been appointed by the Bishop of Peterborough to the rectory of Aston-le-Walls, Northamptonshire. Mr J. Wood, assistant Engineer-in-Chief, Public Works Department, who visited the Lewis Pass road unemployment relief camps on TueJ ; day, will leave for Ashbnrton today to inspect the work on irrigation being done by Mr T. G. Beck, assistant engineer. Public- Works Department. Mr Wood intends to leave for Wellington this evening. Mr R. J. Anwyl, manager for Thomas Cook and Son, Wagons-Lits (Australasia) Ply.. Ltd.. is at present staying in Christchurch. He arrived in New Zealand on January 30 last, and lias since travelled over every tourist route in the country. He will join the Kranconia at Auckland and will leave Wellington for Sydney on February 26. The remarkable achievement "' Archbishop Redwood in completing 60 years as a bishop m the service of {ho Roman Catholic Church was commented on yesterday at. a meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery. The Rev. A. C. Watson suggested that tne Presbytery should write to the Archbishop congratulating him f on his achievement and praying that God's blessing should continue to rest on him. A motion to this effect was carried with enthusiasm. Mr Edward T. Dow ling (Christchurch) has been awarded the silver medal of the Royal Institute of British Architects and a prize of £5 in books. The award admits him to the final competition for the Rome Scholarship in Architecture. He has also been awarded an honours diploma of the Architectural Association School, and has thus gained the full qualifications for which he went to England—A.R.l.B.A.. A.A. Dipl.
