CORONATION HALL, SPREYDON
EXTENSIONS DESIKED BY RESIDENTS The proposals for extensions to the Coronation Hall. Domain terrace, Spreydon, have now been definitely drafted, and at a meeting last evening of representatives from the various organisations interested the plans were detailed and a decision made to include the Mayor of Christchurch and members of the reserves committee of the Christchurch City Council to inspect the hall, with a view to seem-in? their support for the desired alterations. Recently a general meeting was held of residents and others concerned, when a sub-committee was set up to devise the best means of effecting the improvements. Last evening tne sub-committee's recommendations were reported to the meeting. Organisations represented at last n mill's meeting were: Surevdon School Committee. Burgesses' Association, Presbyterian Church, St. Martin s Church. women's bowl in" cricket, croquet, and athletic club"' and the tennis, cricket, swimming', bowling and football clubs Mr T A Coulter, chairman of the school committee, was elected to the chair Altogether the alterations, including tiie new stage, were estimated to cost no more than £250. It was stated that the hall had been handed over to the City Council when Spreydon joined the city, and since then, although the hall had .lons been inadequate for the needs of the district, nothing had been done to improve it. Mr Coulter said he thought he City Council should do something, especially as the cost of the extensions would soon be recovered imcreascd rentals for more frequent use of the hall. Mr W. Smith said that the building had been proved quite inadequate at concerts and social functions and in requesting extensions the residents were only asking for what the district was entitled to. The alterations suggested would remedy the lack of space. The chairman proposed that representatives be appointed to attend the next meeting of the Spreydon fiurgesses' Association and work in cooperation with it.
