SUPERANNUATION FUNDS

- -♦- - ATTITUDE OF PUBLIC SERVANTS ADDHKSS MY MR W. >l. WRIGHT The need for the co-operation of all superannuation associations, superannuitants. and contributors to the funds, in the struggle to preserve the conditions under which they made their contributions was emphasised by Mr W. M. Wright, president, of the New Zealand executive of the Superannuated Public Servants' Association, in an address yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance. Mi' Wright, gave a lull account of the conference recently held in Wellington between Government representatives and members of the different organisations interested in the superannual ion funds. This conference had prepared certain recommendations relating to present, contributors, which, he said, would be considered by the Government before the reappearance of the bill. These recommendations did not involve superannuitants who were making a definite stand for the fulfilment, of the contract, they had entered into. If was explained that the difference between present contributors and superannuitants -was that the former had stiJl to complete their conditions of service, whereas the latter had loyally acknowledged and completed their part of the original bargain. Mr Wright emphasised the need for unanimity of action by the associations as well as by the contributors and superannuitants. It was essential that the closest cooperation should exist among all parties presenting evidence before the conference or before Parliament. The Government was apparently seeking to hide behind (he claim that no money was available to place the funds in a sound position, but what superannuitants could not understand was that money always seemed to be available for all sorts of purposes when the necessity arose. Mr Wright was accorded'a vote of thanks for his address.

An indication that the Christchurch Tramway Board intends to extend the use of trolley-buses is that tenders are being called for the making of four bodies for the same number of chassis which came to hand a month or so ago. The board's engineer has been asked to put in a price for the bodies to enable the board to review the whole matter when the tenders are before it. These vehicles probably will be put mi the Richmond route if it is decided lo substitute a trolley-bus service lor the present electric tram service.
