FLOWER SHOW
SUCCESSFUL DISPLAY AT LINWOOD CHURCH FUNDS BENEFIT A very successful flower show in aid of the Sunday School was held yesterday at St. George's Presbyterian Church, Linwood. There was a very satisfactory entry and the exhibits were generally of a high standard. They were auctioned in the evening, providing a substantial sum lor the funds. A feature of the display was an exhibit from the City Reserves Department's nursery at uinwood Park. The show was opened by Mrs E. R. McCombs, M.P., in the presence of a large attendance. The minister of the church (the Rev. A. McNeur) introduced Mrs McCombs. Mrs McCombs said that she had been brought up in the Presbyterian Church and she had a great love for it. "It was never more necessary than it is to-day that we should have enthusiastic, whole-hearted workers for the dissemination of Christian principles," said Mrs McCombs. She congratulated the organisers and the congregation on the high standard of the exhibits. She was also very pleased to see that the City Council had taken sufficient interest in the effort to provide a fine exhibit from its nursery, and in Mr Barnett, a very enthusiastic judge of the flower classes. She concluded by wishing those present every success, both in their show and in their church work generally. Mrs McCombs was presented with a beautiful bouquet of violets by little Dorothy McNeur. The judges were:—Cut flowers, decorative, and pot plants, fruit and vegetables. Mr M. .T. Barnett; cookery. Miss A. R. Powell; handwork, the Misses Spencc.
