-•-♦ lIISKAM) SENTKM ku to IMPRISONMENT .rir.a.s AS.-.'>c,'i) jr>* t r.i.r.c n»M.I WELLINGTON, February H. George Victor Reed, aged 3!>, pleaded guilty to-day to assaulting his wife, Annabella Reed. It was stated that when drunk he hit her on the head with a bottle and that she was a week in hospital. For the defence it was stated that a war injury necessitated the insertion of a silver plate in Reed's skull, and he had not been normal since, and was practically irresponsible when he had a few drinks. The magistrate said it might be that the assault was in some way attributable to the war injuries. It had been established that accused was drunk at the time, but he could not look leniently on an assault of tiiis kind with the weapon he used. Accused, whom it was admitted had been twice previously convicted for the same class of oflencc, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour.
