BURIAL AT SEA

GISBORNE CEREMONY (I'RK.-o ASSOCIATION TEI-tGKAM.) GISBORNE, February 12. . A burial at sea took place in Poverty Bay this afternoon. Mr William Douglas Bruce, one of the best-known residents of Gisbornc, died on Saturday and by his expressed desire his remains were to be buried at sea. Mr Bruce was a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, and after the funeral service had been conducted by a woman member of the church at his former residence, the remains were removed to a launch, which proceeded lo a spot some three miles off shore, where Tennyson's "Crossing the Bar was recited, and the coffin was consigned to the sea.
