ATHLETICS
INVITATION TO VISIT CANADA .TEAMS FOR EMPIRE GAMES (PIKSS ASSOCIATION' UZLEGEAV.) WELLINGTON, February 12. The suggestion that the New Zealand and Australian teams competing at the next British Empire Games in London this year might travel to England, via Canada, was made in a letter received from the British Empire Games Association, of Canada, and read at last evening's meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. The suggestion was made so that athletes might accept a limited number of engagements with Canadian clubs at Vancouver, Calvary. Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton, ;md Montreal, practically in a straight line across the country. The proposed competitions would not be severe, «» the visiting teams would be competing only with local clubs. A similar suggestion is being made to Australia. It was decided to communicate with the Australian authorities. The Canadian Association also advised that a team of 12 schoolboys would be going to Australia, and suggested that provision should be made for them to compete in New Zealand. J It was decided to communicate with Ihe New Zealand schools to see if arrangements were possible. REPRESENTATION AT NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS PROTEST FROM OTAGO A claim has been made by the athletic centre in Duncdin that certain athletes competing for other centres should represent Olago at the New Zealand championships this week. Otago is now reported to be seeking a decision from the New Zealand Council concerning H. W. Milner, of Canterbury College, who was third in the 120 yards hurdles at the Canterbury championships and has been selected to run for Canterbury at the national meeting. Milner comes from Oamaru, but he now resides permanently in Christchurch and is registered as a competJtor here. He was to have represented Canterbury with a touring team in the .North island last year, but a leg injury prevented him from doing so. He represented Canterbury this season against Wellington. The Canterbury centre considers that as a resident of Christchurch and a competitor registered here Milner should be permitted to run for Canterbury, but it docs not wis;-, lo enter into a dispute With Olago over the matter. Otago lias apparently nominated Milner for the championships, and it j was thought likely by officials in ChrV-church yesterday that the New Zealand council would decide at a meeting held last night which province Milner should run'for. A similar decision may be called for concerning o. M. Watt, who has been nominated to represent Wellington in the 220 yards and 440 yards. Milner and Watt are both university students whose homes were at one lime in one centre and who study in another. The Olago centre had forwarded a remit to the annual conference of centres to be held in Wellington this week, and the position of 'iiesc and other competitors will probably then be fully discussed and a definite ruling given on the subject.
