DEATH OF JOCKEY

* MAGISTRATE ASKS FOR MORE EVIDENCE ! (pflE3a ASSOCIATION lII.KSIU.I ' AUCKLAND, February 10. Instructions to the police to call additional evidence were given by Mr Wyvern Wilson in the Magistrate's Court to-day at the resumed inquest touching on the death of George Albert Baker, aged 19, the apprentice jockey, who was fatally injured while riding the horse Kelly in the Calliope Handicap on the first day of the Takapuna Jockey Club's meeting at Devonport on January 27. Sergeant Ferguson said that one witness who had been asked to attend to give evidence was unable to be present to-day owing to illness. The magistrate: These proceedings will be adjourned until Wednesday afternoon next. I want the evidence of the boy who rode the other horse, the evidence of the trainer, and the evidence of any official who was observing the races. I suppose there: was a stipendiary steward or other official observing the races. Sergeant Ferguson: Very good, sn. We will .call them. Counsel for the relatives: I take it that the trainer will be the man who saddled up the horse? The magistrate: I want the man who knows the peculiarities, if any, of the horse, and who can give evidence about the horse and explain its manner, of racing. These are all matters that I must take into consideration. Mr McLiver: I think it is a question of the gear. The magistrate: It is quite obvious that the gear was broken by contact with the rails. Mr McLiver: Will you hear he evidence of the veterinary surgeon who examined the horse immediately after the accident? The magistrate: Yes, and I also want a plan of the racecourse. Mr McLiver: What about the other jockeys who rode in the race? The magistrate: You can call any evidence you wish on the part of the persons whom you represent. The inquest was then adjourned.
