NKW RETIREMENT S<[IL.ML ' rjtou viR uv.n c,onr.E3i'o;:i>EN : .i LONDON, January The Admiralty announces that it has promulgated to tlie Fleet a further scheme to facilitate the voluntary retirement of surplus lieutenants and lieutenant-commanders for whom further employment cannot be found. The new scheme it is stated is applicaable to officers less than 40 years of age covered by the existing fcheme instituted in 1931. and offer.'; to certain officers, not covered by the existing scheme, retirement with a lump-sum gratuity. It further offers to those officers who are covered by the existing scheme the option of retirement on gratuities, instead of retired pay. The gratunties offered are:—Lieutenantcommanders (less than 40 years of age): £2500 with an addition of £2OO for each year's seniority in the rank of lieutenant-commander. Lieutenants (confirmed in that rank on June 30, 1934)—£1000 up to three years' seniority as lieutenant, £I2OO on attaining three years* seniority, and £2OO for each further year's seniority. June 30, 1934, is to be taken as the date for reckoning seniority, whether an officer retires before or after that date.
