OLD SILVER COINS

| CONSIGNMENT I'OK ROYAL | MINT Old silver coins, collected by bank officers from as far south as 'lnvercargill, arrived in Christchurch on Wednesday evening on their way to the Royal Mint, London, where they will be melted down. At Ashburton, where six boxes each containing £SOO worth of coinage were placed on the special guard's van, it was stated by a bank officer that ,CG6,000 worth of silver had been collected. Two officers (bank officials) travelled in the van to Christchurch, where the coins were taken to the Bank of New Zealand to be forwarded.
