(Received February 7, 7.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 6. , With the second liquor quota period opening on March 1, the import situation is still as confused as ever. The larger exporting countries are still negotiating for increased quotas, but the smaller exporting countries for the greater part are still in the dark concerning the allotments that will be made ihem. No official quota was asked for Australia in the first quota period which closed on December 1, but 30,000 gallons was asked for the second quota period, which closes on April 30. Since there will be six annual quota periods it is thought here that Australian exporters may keep supplies in American bonded warehouses in order to be able to tak» prompt advantage r.f notifications of quota allowances in the future. MR FORD RAISES WAGES "THE BEST ECONOMY" DETROIT, February (i. Mr Henry Ford raised the wages of 20.U00 production workers by 10 per cent, to-day, stating, " The economy industry can practise is to raise wages." He expressed a desire to get back to a scale with a minimum of six dollars a day as quickly as possible. The present Ford wage scale varies irom four dollars to eight dollars 50 cents a day. WASHINGTON, February 6.
Mr William Booing, the aeroplane manufacturer, told the Senate committee investigating air mail contracts to-day that he realised 12,000,000 dollars' profit during the period 1927 to 1933 from an original investment of 1159 dollars. He disclosed that the stock market valuation of his holdings reached 51,000,000 dollars irom this investment. He added, "It was no fault of mine. It went up there.'
