REOPENING OF SCHOOLS (•PECIA.L TO THE PEESS.) GREYMOUTH, February 7. Primary and secondary schools in the Gre'y district reopened yesterday after the Christmas holidays. Attendances at all schools were good, and in some cases exceed those of last year. Otira Tunnel Freight. During last week 8671 tons of freight were railed through the O - tunnel, compared with 9418 tons for the corresponding week last year, ana 6276 tons in 1932. Accident at Kumar a. While passing a motor-lorry on the zig-zag road near Kumara yesterdaj, a motor-car driven by Mr J -JJ ar vf* was thrown against a tree on the siae of the road. All the occupants of the car escaped injury, but the vehicle uself suffered some damage. Hokitika Municipal Band. At the annual meeting of the Hokitika Municipal Band, Mr W. E. Richards presided. The annual report, and the balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £3O, were read ana adopted. The election of officers suited:—Conductor, Mr C. B. Rose, bandmaster, Mr W. E. Richards; sec , l |" tary, Mr A. K. Good; treasurer. Mr J. Stapleton; band sergeant, Mr A. Parkhill; librarian, Mr G. Rauie. cEretaker, Mr D. McLeod; committee, Messrs W. E. Richard?, A. Parkhill, L. S. Ross, G. Raine, and G. Roberts, together with the executive officers. Personal. Miss Jean Harker has left on a visit to Christchurcli. . Mrs J. W. Hannan has left on a visit to Christehurch. Mrs' M. Sullivan and Miss M. Sullivan, of Weheka, have left on a visit to C-hristchuich. Mr Justice Johnston will preside at the sitting of the Supreme Court at Greymouth to commence on February 28. The Rev. Father J. Ilealy, of Greymouth, has been appointed to the care of the new parish of Wataroa, in South Weslland, and liis place at Greymouth is to be taken by the Lev. Father McEwan, of Addington, Christchurch. I
