♦ ELLESMERE BOARD MORE MEN FOR CAMP An increase in the number of men in the single men's camp at Motukarara was decided upon at a meeting of the Ellesmere Land Drainage Board yesterday morning, and steps will be taken to increase the accommodation there. yf The meeting was attended by J. Sharp (chairman), H. J. Macartney/" It. McLachlan, G. W. Osborne, F. Coop, W. Downey, and J. Mackenzie (secretary). The secretary reported that the ratea ■, levied and collected were: Levied. [ River .. 1653 13 5 200 9 6 1 Lake .. 153 1 2 26 15 7 Receipts since the last meeting were —Rates, £135 16s 8d; rent, £22 3s 4d Between January 13 and February 3 £IOO lis 6d was spent under the No. 5 scheme, making a total of £SJ9H 3s 9d spent in wages under tot scheme. Work on the canal and river tak was being done by the 16 men in the single men's camp at Motukarara, The weed-cutter had been worked on the river HalsweU from Greenpark to Lansdowne, and the length from Lansdowne to the top had been cut by hand. The sides of the river and canal had been trimmed and dragged between Greenpark and the lake, and a number of drains had been cleaned. The hot weather had caused a heavy growth of weed in the swamp drains, and all hands had been kept busy trying to cope with it. In a verbal report, the secretary stated that arrangements had been made to place an additional 10 men in the sjngle men's camp. It was agreed that accommodation for the men should be prepared immediately, and the report was adapted,
