Returning to Australia after a j visit to England, Europe, and America, where he was sent by the Commonwealth Government to study the latest development in serum treatment, Dr. F. G. Morgan, of the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories, Parkville, Victoria, is a through passenger by the Maunganui to Sydney. | Interviewed, lie said that in the last 10 years serum treatment for diseases had advanced considerably, but only through intense research work with both the prevention and the cure of diseases. Diseases due to filtrable viruses, organisms or germs so small that they could not be detected by ordinary methods were receiving particular attention in all great centres of medical research. In this category were such diseases as influenza, encephalitis, yellow lever, and infantile paralysis. He said the results of his tour were highly satisfactory. Allegations of unfair competition by the Government Tourist Department on vessels arriving in New Zealand were discussed by the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce recently, and it was decided to send a letter of protest to the Minister in charge. The president of the chamber, Mr H. Turner, said that representatives of ' the Tourist. Department were al- | lowed to board vessels coming into 1 port, while representatives of tour- ! ist companies were not permitted on board. Mr W. R. Fee said that serious exception was taken to the Government's policy. One company in particular brought thousands of people to New Zealand and chartered vessels, but when ships arrived here its clients were allowed to think that the company was not represented here or had no interest in them. Such a company could not be expected to continue to take nn interest in New Zealand while the Government was actively engaged in robbing it of the fruits of its labour, he said.

A "complete radio newspaper" is to be broadcast every evening in Oporto. The experiment has been arranged by a Lisbon journal, which will use its own wireless station for the purpose.
