OBITUARY
| MR J. T. SMELLIE j The death occurred recently at | Monek's Bay, Sumner, of Mr John Tennant Smellie, a highly respected resident of North Canterbury. He was the youngest son of the late Mr John Smeilie, one of the earliest settlers of the Leithfield district, and from his earliest years had engaged in agricultural and pastoral farming. He was of a quiet and retiring disposition, but the many friends from far and near who attended his funeral, the expressions of sympathy, and beautiful floral tributes, testified to his popularity. He always took a keen interest in cricket and in rifle shooting, and many local clubs have benefited by his help. In 1902 he married Miss Lucy Ann Lister, youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Lister, of Balcairn, and she and two sons, John Lister Smellie, of "Woodford," Mason's Flat, and Tennant P. Smellie. of "Melrose," Hawarden. survive.
