HofTmciatcr and Dr. Harry Ladd, of Rochester University, New York, arrived by the IMaunganui, and will proceed to-day 1o Auckland to connect with the Niagara, their objective being the I.au Islands, in the eastern part of the Fiji group. They will study the geological history of these islands, also the origin of coral barrier reefs and atolls. The work will be entirely scientific. Thoy have previously worked in the Tongan group and western Fiji and published articles and books about Tonga and Viti Levu.
