The wealth of historical association which New Zcalanders have built up round thoir old churches and buildings was referred to by Bishop West-Watso". when speaking at the dedication of the new hall in the parish of St. Luke's yesterday afternoon. The bishop was referring to the loss by fire of the old Southbridge Church, which was consecrated in 1865. "To the visitor to New Zealand these explorations into the past may seem strange, because the dates after all are not centuries away. But 1865 brings memories to us here of the days of the early pioneers; the days of great deeds and great hearts. In this fire there has been the .wiping out of a building greatly loved by the pioneers, and greatly used for their well-being"
