RELIEF OF UNEMPLOYED

•ro iac editob or the pbiss Sir,— Obviously "Farmer's Wife" is a keen business woman, and I should like to offer her advice on how to advertise Ashburton butter in an effective practical method. It she packs the product nicely in suitable wrapping, and in boxes suitably addressed, the central relief depot, Christchurch, will, I feel sure, pay the f.o.r cost for its delivery. They xvill, I also conclude, distribute the samples evenly and inform the recipients that it is Ashburton butter presented by a farmer's wife of that district, in recognition of the very cheap labour the farmers have been supplied with, through the Unemployment Board, from the ranks of the relief workers who are now on # the "bread and dripping" line—a disgrace to this land of plenty.—-Yours, etc., ANTI-FREE TRADER. February 4, 1934.

TO IHK EDI'IOE If THB I'HESH Sir,—l wish to protest emphatically against Mr Cape-Williamson's remarks about compelling or even suggesting ! that people made in God's image and ! likentlss—the New Zealand unemployed—should eat animal grease just because they arc not earning £3O a week and that they are not in the same street of luxury that Mr CapeWilliamson lives in. As a counterblast to the "dripping stunt" allow me most respectfully to demand that every depot be supplied with sufficient butter, condensed milk, tea, sugar, and New Zealand honey, to supply weekly evury recipient who goes to the depots. Dripping in one of the greatest butter countries in the world! O, ye gods and little fishes!— Yours, etc., P. F. ROGAN. February 4, 1934.
