BATH AT ST. ALBANS
.—o — A POOL TO BE FILLED NEXT { WEEK < I The new swimming bath at St. Albans is now completed and will be filled for the first time on Thursday next. There is still a fair amount of subsidiary work to be done, but it is expected that the whole undertaking will be finished in time for the New Zealand championships to be held early in February. The work remaining to be done includes levelling off, the erection of a fence and permanent seating accom- ] modation for between 500 and 600 persons, and temporary accommodation for an extra 400 persons for the championships. The fence will be nine feet high. There will be the usual high and low diving boards, and a sun-bathing space will be provided at the head of the baths. It was intended to have an embankment similar to the 1 one at Lancaster Park, but owing to i lack of spoil the proposal has had to be dropped. The baths will be filled from an artesian well 2701't down. The inlet ( pipe is of four-inch bore, and the filling will take about 24 hours. There ! arc two outlet pipes, one of fourinch bore, and the other of six inch. It is probable that later a board will be set up to control the baths , and although it is not yet known what ; the personnel will be, the citizens, the local swimming club, and the City Council are likely to be among those represented. The opening will probably take place early in February.
