HONOURING PATRON SAINT OF WINE
THE COCKTAIL OUSTED LONDON. November IC. The cocktail is "in retreat." The news was Brought last night to the Worshipful Company of Vintners in their corporate hall in Upper Thames street, where, year by year, as | Martinmas comes round, they meet to | praise the memory of Saint Martin, of ; Tours. St. Martin's festival falls at the moment when the result of the vin- J tage is known, and the Vintners ; honour him as their patron saint. i Last night, after Dr. Edwin Freshfield had told the story of the soldierpriest, and, incidentally, had claimed the Emperor 'Constantine as a mem-1 ber of the Vintners' Company, Mr Maurice Healy, K.C., talked of the wines of 1933. f
It was then that the Vintners, and the "amateurs of wine" who were their guests, heard of the fail of the cocktail, ousted. Mr Healy said, by sherry and Madeira. Madeira it seems may once more regain its ancient place as a "wine of all hours." The latest vintage is excellent, said Mr Healy.
