RAID ON HOUSES
* MILK-MONEY AND CLOTHES STOLEN (PRESS 4SSOCIATIOW TEI.BCRAM.I AUCKLAND, November 27. A raid on more than 50 houses in the Grafton district was made early yesterday morning by thieves who stole clothing from clothes lines and small change from milk cans near the back doors. Nearly £2 was stolen in pennies and threepenny pieces, while the thieves were not above taking a pound of butter or a pot of cream left by early milkmen. Indignant householders were surprised to find notes from the milkmen pointing out that the money had been forgotten; others blamed the milkmen for overlooking messages left requesting extra milk, cream, or butter and many families began the day with a stern resolve to change their dairyman. , , More serious losses occurred at a number of houses where bathing suits, shirts, underwear, stockings, and handkerchiefs were missing from lines in the back yards. In some instances householders were not aware of their losses until the police who recovered a quantity of the stolen property after the arrest of two youths, made practically a house-to-house canvass of the district enquiring if anything had been St Enquiries made by the police resulted in an exceptional number of Grafton residents visiting the police station during the day to attempt to identify their belongings from a miscellaneous assortment of recovered in the morning. By 9 0 clock lasb evening almost everything had been claimed.
