•*--- - TKNNIS GREYMOUTH, November 27. inter-club matches between Grey and Hokitika Tennis Clubs were played on Saturday, the B teams meeting at Hokitika and the A teams at Greymouth. Both matches were won by the Grey Club. Results of the match played at Greymouth were:— Women's Singles—Miss Costello beat Miss Thompson 6-3, Miss Tennent beat Miss Stapleton 6-5, Mrs Fuller lost to Miss Knights 2-6, Mrs McGlashan beat Miss A. Stapleton 6-5. Men's Singles—A. Smith beat Doherty 9-3, M. C. Smith lost to Gooch 6-9, Curran lost to Larcombe 4-9, Rollinson lost to Higgins 0-9. Women's Doubles—Misses Costello and Tennent beat Misses Thompson and Stapleton 9-8, Mrs Fuller and Mrs McGlashan lost to Misses Stapleton and Knights 5-9. Men's Doubles—Smith and Smith beat Gooch and Doherty 9-1, Curran and Rollinson beat Larcombe and Higgins 9-8. Mixed Doubles—Miss Costello and Smith beat Miss Thompson and Gooch 9-8. Miss Tennent and Smith lost to Miss Stapleton and Doherty 3-9, Mrs Fuller and Curran beat Miss Knights and Larcombe 9-4, Mrs McGlashan and Rollinson lost to Miss Stapleton and Higgins 4-9. Cricket. Rain caused most games at Greymouth to be abandoned at 4 o'clock yesterday, and results were decided mostly on the first innings. Marist gained a two-point win over Runanga at the Recreation Ground by seven wickets and 20 runs, rain causing play to cease before Marist had finished its innings. Runanga in the first innings made 95, and Marist had iTiree wickets down for 115, two batsmen retiring. F. Bayley, who scored 65. retired, played a fine innings, reaching that score in about 35 minutes. Cobden A secured a two-point win over Stars on the first innings. Stars made 76 and Cobden had scored 100 for two wickets (Edwards 49 not out) when rain stopped play. United gained a three-point win by 4 runs over Brunncr, at Brunner. United had eight wickets down for 165 (Restieaux 53, Rapley 42, Smythe 43 not out) when it declared. Brunner in the first innings made only 52, and in the second innings 109. At Kumara, Kumara defeated Cobden by 61 runs on the first innings. Cobde'n's first innings realised 85, and Kumara's 146 (Greatbatch 55). In the senior Saturday competition, Cobden gained a first innings win over United, and Technical Old Boys was defeated in a friendly match with a Marist third grade team. Rose Show.
