EXCURSION TO WEST COAST

AN ENJOYABLE DAY A very successful excursion was held on Sunday, when nearly 600 Can. terbury persons made a trip to Greymouth, about half of them continuing on to Hokitika and Lake Mahinapua. During the time allowed at Hokitika about 30 of the excursionists took advantage of motor trips to Lake Kanieri and had lunch on the shore of the lake.' The Dorothy Falls looked particularly beautiful and many considered this one of the prettiest sights of the day. Returning to Hokitika, the party joined the train proceeding on to Lake Mahinapua, which is famed for the wonderiul reflections of the mountains. Past Mahinapua is the Ruatapua sawmill, where the ma anger had arranged for one of the staff to show the party round. The country round the mill and lake is covered with the best samples of Westland bush, and with glimpses of the mountains as a background, some' topped with snow, the scenery was impressive. Returning to Greymouth at 6 p.m., the excursionists had tea, and spent the evening in the town. A large number attended the concert given in the £° w n .Hall, by the New Brighton Municipal Band and other well-known Christchurch artists. At 11 p.m. and 11.25 the two big trains left for Christchurch, the Greymouth railway platform being packed to capacity with friends and well-wishers. On the return journey the commit tees carriage was crowded when the organiser, Mr C A. C. Frost, on behalf pf the Corsair Club, expressed thanks to all who had worked for the success of the excursion, and. especially to Mr Peter Taylor who had so generously given his valued experience and time tor the excursionists' benefit. A hearty cote of thanks was accorded Mr Taylor, the company singing "For Hes a Jolly Good Fellow." The two trains arrived at Christchurch on time.
