The forty-fourth annual communication of Grand Lodge of New Zealand Freemasons opened at Dunedin in the Town Hall to-day. There was a large attendance of delegates from 305 lodges now on the register, and the Grand Master, Lord Bledisloe, presided. His Excellency was re-elected to the position of Grand Master, and Sir Stephen S. Allen as Pro Grand Master. Other executive officers were returned as follows: —Grand Secretary, Mr H. A. The retirement from office of two Provincial Grand Masters was announced, that of Mr H. H. Edwards (Nelson and Marlborough) and Mr F. Symes (Ruapehu District). Acknowledgment was made of the valuable services to the craft of Colonel George Barclay, who has been Grand Secretary for the last 12J years, and ■who is retiring from Office at the conclusion of the present communication. Wellington city was fixed as the place for the communication of 1934. On reassembling in the evening, the Past Grand Master, Mr J. J. Clark, of Dunedin, carried out the reinstallation of the Grand Master. The investiture and induction of the proGrand Master, Sir Stephen Allen, was performed by Past Grand Master Mr T. Ross, of Dunedin. The Grand Master announced his appointment of Mr D. J. F. McFarlane, of Wanganui, as Deputy-Grand Master, and he also was duly invested. Provincial Grand Masters. Provincial Grand Masters for the year were appointed as follows: Canterbury: Mr C. Flavell, in virtue of his office as Provincial Grand Master of the Masonic Province of Canterbury. Auckland: Mr Oliver Nicholson, Past Grand Master. Wellington: Mr E. J. Guiness. Otago: Mr G. R. Henderson. Southland: Mr J. Manson. Hawke's Bay: The Rev. R. D. B. iWaugh. West Coast: Mr F. S. Wood. Nelson and Marlborough: Mr C. A. Eckford. Taranaki: Mr J. McAllister. Ruapehu: Mr W. H. McLean. Further prerogative appointments by the Grand Master were those of Mr J. W. Beanland, of Christchurch, as Senior Grand Warden, and Mr J. A. Sparrow (Dunedin) as Junior Grand Warden. Another feature of the proceedings was the presentation to retiring Grand Secretary, Colonel George Barclay, of the regalia of a Past Deputy Grand Master. Colonel Barclay was also appointed to represent Grand Lodge of New Zealand at the golden jubilee celebrations of Grand Lodge of South Australia in April next
