Occasionally one sees a sign with a name followed by the words "by exam.," as an indication of qualification for certain services. A sidelight on this matter was given at a meeting in V/ellington of the executive committee of the New Zealand Society of Accountants during a discussion, on a question of reciprocal relations with similar bodies in other countries. "In some of these cases the examination papers seem to be all right," remarked a member, "but the standard of marking by examiners may not be strict enough." The importance of a proper standard, as a protection for the public, was emphasised.
