MEETING OF BOARD \ DIRECTORS

The usual monthly meeting of the* board of directors of the Young Men's Christian Association was held last evening. There were present Mr D. E. Parton (in the chair), Messrs K. G. Archer, W. F. Blackwell, A. C, Cottrell, T. Evans, J. E. Fleming, H. W. Heslop, S. L. Partridge, I. Sladen, A. M. West, and the general secretary. Concerning the street day that the City Council proposed should be allotted to the Young Women's Christian Association and Young Men's Christian Association in July, a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Parton, Heslop, and Archer was appointed in order toconfer with members of the directorate and the advisory board of the Young Women's Christian Association.' It was announced that approximately £620 would be cleared from the queen carnival, and that owing' to further decrease in general sue-' scriptions this amount would enable' the association to carry on until the. end of the financial year, provided that there was no further decrease ■ in ordinary revenue. Special thanks' was given to all who helped with the 5 queen carnival. The general secretary reported that he would be going on his annual leave on Friday next. Mr C. G. Pegg was appointed acting-general secretary. The boys' camp committee reported that it was making arrangements with regard to publicity. A strong appeal was made to directors to help to obtain a larger number of campers. It was announced that the Rotairy Club would again be helping to send boys to camp, and that the members of the Rotary Club and their families would be visiting the camp on January 20. Officers' Reports. The following is a summary of the reports presented at the board meeting:— The general secretary reported that all winter activities had concluded and that the association was concentrating on out-door work. The vocational guidance department was arranging to make visits to schools this month. All arrangements were under way for the boys' camp, and a special effort was being made to increase the numbers. The physical director stated in his report that the attendance at gymnasium classes had increased by more than 1000 this year, the progress attendances for the last four years being: 1930, 21,397, 1931, 23,696; 1932, 23,843; 1933, 25,464. Further championships in gymnasium classes were as follows: — Boys under 12: John Alison 1, .Alien Barnsdale 2. Primary boys: Les Rowland 1, & Young 2. Secondary boys: C. Tobeck 1. Employed boys: Keith Williams L C. Blackett 2. Girls under 14: Betty James l. Maisie Ross-Smith 2. The Tramping Club this year will visit Queenstown, Lake Wakatipn, Lake Howden, Upper Hollyford Tract Milford Sound, and back via McKinnon Pass, and will be tinder the leadership of the physical director. A class is meeting on two evenings a week for tumbling. Mr D. W. Ross, boys' work director, reported that combined rallies had brought the Bible Study groups to a close, the speakers having been the Rev. L. A. North, and Messrs W. A. Bascand, and A. E. Haynes. The camp circular had been printed and posted to nearly 500 different homes, together with a letter to parents, and a number of enquiries had been received to date from both boys and leaders. A special firogrSinme for the camp would be broadcast from 3YA during the children's hour on Monday, November 27. Window posters relating to the camp had been prepared.
