LEAGUE OF WHEELMEN
.STATEMENT BY CHAIRMAN OF COUNCIL PKW i iSOCtAT-.OS I*I.EGBAR. WELLINGTON, October 27. Mr H. 1. Auslad, chairman of the New Zealand Cycling Council, stated to-day that in view of the statements by the.- League of Wheelmen, it was desirable to define the position by stating that the League of Wheelmen was not affiliated to the New Zealand Cycling Federation, nor was Mr H. D. London either a delegate to or secretary of thai federation, as lias been reported. The position was that the Cycling Federation of New Zealand operated in supreme control. The only bodies affiliated were the New Zealand Amateur Athletic and Cycling Association and the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union.
"My experience has been thai one wants !.o have an armoured ear when using the streets of Wellington regularly for parking purposes," :aid Sir Alexander Roberts, president, at the annual meeting of the Wellington Automobile Club. "How t;ftcn do we see a driver struggling almost hopelessly to park alongside the kerb 'bow first.' and yet it is so easily done "stern first.' T often wonder wheiher it would not i.-e possible for the officers of the flub to give a little instruction in the art of parking to those requiring .it, and I think that if the principle could be brought into operation generally a great deal of the damage that _ occurs in parking would be avoided. I am sure you will agree that something in the nature of protection, is required. The public should realise that when they are parking their cars they i should leave at least sufficient room I for anybody adjacent to get out."
