CANTERBURY SEATS
* SELECTION OF LABOUR CANDIDATES The Labour Representation Committee at its meeting last night received nominations of candidates to stand in the Labour interests for certain seats in Canterbury at the next Parliamentary general elections. The chairman of the meeting (Mr H. McCaw) stated to a reporter at the close of the meeting that all the sitting Labour members had been nominated without opposition for the seats at present held by them. For the Christchurch North seat three nominations had been received* for Kaiapoi, four; and for Riccarton, two. In the meantime nominations for the Hurunui and Mid-Canterbury seats had been held over. The various persons nominated would be communicated with to ascertain if they were willing to accept nomination, and would be asked to reply within a month. Those who accepted nomination would then be ballotted for by the organisations affiliated to the Labour Representation Committee.
