— SCHOOL COMMITTEE The meeting of the Riccarton School Committee was attended by Messrs E. Evans (in the chair), W. Cole (honorary secretary), L. Wootton, W. C. Taylor, A. J. Keene, W. Wood, and the headmaster (Mr V. J. Gamble). The works committee reported that the school grounds were in good condition. The fence surrounding the baths was being moved back to provide more room within the baths enclosure. The headmaster reported that the roll number was 245 and the average attendance 232. Jubilee Executive. The executive which was in charge of the arrangements for the celebration of the diamond jubilee of the Riccarton School met on Wednesday evening, Mr H. Brake presiding. The honorary secretary (Mr W. Cole) reported on the various activities and

the headmaster of the school (Mr V. J. } Gamble) reported on the sports meeting held with the celebrations. It was decided to place a slab, suitably engraved, at the foot of the tree which had been planted in the school grounds during the celebrations, and to entertain all those who had assisted the executive during the celebrations at a complimentary social. The headmaster and the staff of the school were accorded a hearty vote of ■ thanks for their services during the ; celebrations. S*.. Ninian's Ladies' Guild. The St. Ninian's Ladies' Guild held ' its monthly meeting in the guild room, - Mrs W. Edginton presiding. A profit- . able time was spent in making and fin- , ishing garments for the plain and fancy stall at the forthcoming garden fete. > Garments were also sent to the girls' ; orphanage. Arrangements for the fete were completed. It was decided to hold a gift social to provide Christmas cheer for the orphans. Afternoon tea s was served.
