AUSTRALIAN ESSAYS
The Rrnnlrs of the Moraine Wv Donal* MacflcmMd. Angus and Robertson (Gs net.) The writer of these essays, who died recently, was for 51 years a member of the staff of the Melbourne "Argus," and, according to Dr E S. Cunningham, showed an almost uncanny ability to look outside his immediate subject and to give his work a quality beyond the capacity of men of lesser vision Some time ago he wrote The Bush Boys' Book," now one of the outdoor man's classics; and the present collection cannot "fail to enhance his reputation. As a good journalist, the author did not confine himself to the subjects upon wnich he was specially qualified to write but was as pleasing when out of his depth as when within it. "Night and a Fox" is one of the prettiest ot the pieces.
