DEBATE ON WORLD CONFERENCE IMPORTANT MEASURES NEXT WEEK ItESERVE BANK BILL AND COMPANIES BILL [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.! WELLINGTON, October 13. To-day has been another ineffective day in the House of Representatives. It had been hoped that the second readings of some n* "-" Government bills on the order paper ■would be reached; but the whole of the morning and afternoon sessions were occupied with furth' - discussion on the Prime Minister'? report of the World Economic and Monetary Conference. Extensions of time werj again freelv grmv-rl-but addresses by Labour members, alleging the futility oi ih, corJirence and the incapacity of the Government failed to rouse the flagging interest of the House. The close approach of a long week-end seemed to be in the air, and at times the attendance of members fell to perilously near the minimum of 20. The commonplace level of debate was disturbed only by a brief pas-sage-at-arms between Mr D. McDougall (Ind., Mataura) Mr F. Lye (C, Waikato), and Mr S. G. Smith (C, New Plymouth), chairman of committees, who was temporarily! occupying the Speaker's chair. Mr H. Atmore (Ind., Nelson), who was among those granted an extension. talked out time, and the usual adjournment was taken until Tuesdav afternoon. it is now practically certain that the two most important measures of the session—the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Bill and th" Companies Bill—will both be brought down next week. The final draft of the Reserve Bank Bill will be discussed with representatives of the associated banks on Monday, ard the Minister for Finance (the Rt. Hon. J. G Coates) hope* to be able to reintroduce it by Wednesday at the latest. The final draft of the Companies Bill is now also available, and it will probably be considered by the Cabinet to-mor-row morning. This bill, which aims to brin? New Zealand comoany law into line with English tew. has under preparation for the last four years. The committee stages of several Gr-ernment bills which have rassed the second reading will be taken -when the House resumes on Tuesday and if nothing intervenes novate members' bills, of which several are on the order paper, will be discussed on Wednesday.
