"THE MESSENGER BOY"
OPERATIC SOCIETY'S COMEDY
"The Messenger Bey," the musical comedy which is being produced by the Christchurch Operatic Society at St. James' Theatre, is having a very successful season. The society has built up a creditable reputation by the excellence of its work in the last few years, and its policy of producing a lighter type of entertainment is, judging by attendances, proving most popular. "The Messenger Boy" is undoubtedly one of its best efforts, combining an abundance of clean humour, polished acting, melodious songs, and bright ballets, as well as having a sound foundation in the plot. The work of the chorus and the ballet gives evidence of careful preparation, and is quite in keeping with the merit of the rest of the production. The cast is well chosen to meet the exacting demands of the producer, and the
entertainment never flags. Those who have prominent parts are Messrs D. McKivett, Wyn Cowlishaw, Fred. Pitt, Fred. Hale, Mrs Guy Cotterill, Miss Agatha Sutton, Miss Freda Jennings, and Miss Mollie Fowler. The production is in the capable hands of Major F. H. Lampen, and the musical director is Mr Alfred Bunz. The presentation will be given nightly throughout the week, finishing on Saturday night. There will be a matinee on Saturday afternoon.
