TECHNICAL HIGH. SCHOOL {spifiAL to a'HB rasas.) GREYMOUTH, October 10. At a meeting o£ the. board of governors of the Greymouth Technical High School, Mr T. E. Coates presided. A. welcome ■ was-extended to Mr J. Tennent, who was attending his first meeting of the board since his election. A vote of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr H. E. Holland. The Canterbury Education Board wrote notifying the reappointment of Dr. J. W. Mcßrearty as its representative. Complaints by Whitcbaitcrs. To investigate complaints made by the Whitebait Fishermen's Association, Mr A. E. Hefford, chief inspector of fisheries, will visit the West Coast this week. School Committees' Association. A decision to form a West Coast School Committees' Association was reached at a meeting of the coast cornmitiees in Greymouth, and the following officers were elected to the new body: Chairman, Mr R. A. Barrowrnan; secretary and treasurer, MrMorgan; committee, Messrs R. R. Smith, U. Mettrick, Robinson, Smithers, and Wirthington. Magistrate's Court.

At yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Greymouth, before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., a second offender for drunkenness was convicted and fined 10s, the amount of his bail. On a charge oC failing adequately to maintain his wife and child, Edward John Parker was remanded to appear at Ashburton on October 13.

Raymond Henderson and James Neil Robson pleaded guilty to charges of disorderly behaviour in a railway carriage at Dunollie, and also to breaking a window, valued at 12s 6d, the property of the Railway Department. Henderson stated that he alone was responsible for the window being broken, and said that Robson had had nothing to do with it. Henderson was fined 10s and costs on the first charge, and ordered to pay the value of the window on the second. Robson was fined 10s and costs on the first charge, and convicted and discharged on the second. Henderson was allowed a fortnight to pay.

A maried man, whose name was ordered to be suppressed, was fined 10s for stealing coal, valued at Is, from the Railway Department.

Athletics. At the twenty-seventh annual meeting of the West Coast centre of the New Zealand Athletic, Cycling, and Axemen's- Union, .Mr G. E. Perkins presided. The annual report and the balancesheet, showing a credit of £l7B 17s 3d, were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr G. E. Perkins; vicepresidents, Messrs K. Williams, N. Lawson, and F. Williams; executive, Messrs H. Petrie, J. Laing, A. M. Jamieson. A. W. Peebles, Rex. Fitzgerald, J. Flaherty, and J. Reedy; treasurer, Mr J. Tennent. REEFTON NEWS PERSONAL (SPECIAL TO THE-.THESE.) REEFTON, October 10. Nurse Watson, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. P. Watson (Crushington), is seriously ill in the Westport Hos-j pital. Mr D. X. Alison, a former resident, I is visiting Reefton. Tennis. The opening of the Black's Point Tennis Club took place in dull weather. There was a large attendance. Mr iV. Blom, vice-president, in declaring the season open, congratulated the club on the condition of the court, and wished it success. Afternoon tea was provided. Basketball. The basketball final for the Grossman Cup was won by the Reefton High School. Scores: High School 13, Old Girls 6. CricJte't. The Reefton Cricket Club has been advised that the Wingham Shield will be presented to the club during the coming season. This shield was won oy Reefton last season, but was not handed over owing to a misunderstanding between another club and the centre.
