SPORTS OPENING The opening of the bowling an.d tennis season took place in glorious weather. There were large crowds of visitors and members present at both gatherings, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent in ideal surroundings, the flowering shrubs in the domain making a fine display. On the bowling green the season was officially opened by the president, Mr Loney. Miss Jean Dickey delivering the first jack, and Mrs Shier bowling the first bowl. Prizes won during the previous season were presented as follows:—Silver jack for singles champion, J. Morgan; silver cup for doubles champions. J. Andrews (lead) and D. Dickey (skip): championship rinks, J. Andrews, S. Wales, J. Loney, and C. Toy. On the tennis courts the season was declared open by Mr C. Fiavell, in the absence of the president. Mr Dickson. Silver cups for the previous season's tournaments were presented to Miss M. Halliday and H. Deavoll. Afternoon tea was served. Dance. There was a fair attendance at a dance arranged bv members of the Rifle Club in the hall. Reg. Wood's orchestra supplied the music, and Mr G. Lagrossc played supper extras. Messrs K. Wyman and T. Mather were masters of ceremonies.
