THE RANGATIRA REPAIRS BEING EFFECTED AT WELLINGTON [THE PRESS Special SenMco.J WELLINGTON, October 10. Many persons were attracted to the Clyde quay wharf yesterday afternoon and to-day, while operations were in progress for the removal of several of the damaged stern plates of the Rangaura. The Rangatira has been withdrawn from the Lyttelton-Wellington service until October 25, and meanwhile she will remain in Wellington undergoing overhaul and repairs to her stern, which was damaged when she came into collision with the floating crane Rapaki at Lyttelton on September 5.

1 The repairs are being made by the Wellington Patent Slip Company, which yesterday began removing the dented plates. With the use of oxyacetelcne torches, the rivets were removed, and the plates were swung clear on to the wharf. Three plates have now been removed, and these are to be straightened. It is not yet known whether any of them will have to be replaced with new plates. Several frames which were bent in the collision will probably have to be replaced. The port-holes in the vessel's stern, which were stove in and subsequently covered over, will be repaired. The whole work will probably take about nine or 10 days. At the conclusion of the repair work the Rangatira will go on to the floating dock about October 18, but. will be there for only one day. Her overhaul will then be completed, general cleaning and painting being carried out. She will resume in the Lyttelton service on October 25, and will run in conjunction with the Wahine during the summer months. During this period the Maori will be laid up in Wellington.

KALINGO DELAYED The Kalingo has been delayed at. Greymoulh. and was to leave there yesterday for. Sydney and Newcastle. She will load at Newcastle about Wednesday week for Auckland and Miramar. MONOWAI AT SYDNEY Advice has been received that the Union Company's liner Monowai, from Vancouver and Auckland, reached Sydney at 5 a.m. on Saturday. She is to leave there again next Saturday for Auckland
