"THE MESSENGER BOY"
II I SEASON BEGINS TO-MORROW To-morrow afternoon the Christchurch Operatic Society will commence its musical comedy season of seven nights and two matinees at St. James 1 Theatre. A delightful work "The Mesenger Boy" is this year's second selection, and it is safe to say that the public is in for an all-round treat. The producer has strained every effort to cater for all tastes, whether in dancing, singing, comedy, pathos, or general brightness. In this respect, he has been ably supported by the musical director, Mr Alfred Bunz, and the ballet mistress, Miss Bessie Macdonald. It is many years since the society has had such a fine chorus and ballet. A strong cast of characters has been selected to portray the various parts, including Miss Agatha Sutton, Miss Molly Fowler, Miss Sybil Carey, Miss Audrey Cotterill, Miss Freda Jennings, Mr Dan McKivett, Mr Clive Hindle, Mr Wyn Cowlishaw, Mr Fred Hale, Mr Reg. Lamb, Mr Fred Pitt, Mr H. Ronaldso. Mr B. C. H.I Robson, Mr Guy Cotterill, Mr E. T. Sopp, and Mr R. S. Gibbard. Practically all the money spent on the society's productions is spent in Christchurch. When it is realised that l "The Messenger Boy" costs £7OO to' produce, it will easily be seen that the society is serving a very useful purpose in the community. The box plan for the season is open at The Bristol, and day sales are at the theatre sweet shop.
