SYNTHETIC GLASS

WIDE VARIETY OF USES A useful substitute for glass has recently been placed on the English market. It is a cellulose acetate compound, reinforced with a fine wire mesh. It is strong,, but light, weighing only 16oz a square yard, and it is flexible, waterproof, and dustproof. Its greatest merit is that it allows the passage of ultra-violet rays, nis quality makes it particularly suitable for many purposes, in the garden. Light, unbreakable cloches are easily made from it, and it is excellent for cold frames and grfeenhouses. Even old frames that have become too much warped to support glass may be satisfactorily fitted with this flexible material. It may be cut with scissors to any shape or size required, and sewn into canvas screens, tents, or verandah blinds. For portable garden shelters, it is light and handy, and yet waterproof. An odd piece may often prove useful as a temporary substitute for

glass when a broken window is awaiting repair. r Unlike glass, this material may be carried anywhere without risk of breakage, ancl it is so easy to cut and fix, that the amateur joiner may use it with advantage for many pux*poses.
