CROQUET

NEW BRIGHTON CLUB The opening of the season of the New Brighton Croquet Club took place yesterday afternoon. j The approach to the lawn has been much improved by the Rawhiti Domain Board since last season, footpaths and rustic fencing having been built. The lawn presented a gay appearance, being bedecked with flags and streamers. The efforts of the greenkeeper, Mr J. W. Hall, were rejected in the fine condition of the lawn. Mrs .T. Cooke, the president, welcomed the guests, who included visitors from the following clubs: Barrington, Lin wood, United, Mount Pleasant, Cashmere, Southbridge, and Edgeware. Mrs J. P. Maddren, secretary of the United Croquet Club, in declaring the 1933 season open, congratulated the New Brighton Club on the high standard of play displayed last season, and Mrs Alec. Dey (secretary) played the first ball. Afternoon tea was served by the committee, and a number of frieijdly games and competitions followed.
