Mr Aschman is a son of Mr C. T. Aschman, well known in Canterbury as a former headmaster of the Normal School, Christchurch, and now chairman of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College.'—Press Association. On Sunday the members of the choir of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, together with representatives of the congregation, met to say farewell to Mr H. Blakeley, who has been choirmaster during the last five years. Speaking on behalf of the choir, Mr Ernest Rogers referred to the friendly spirit and good harmony that prevailed and the great regret members felt at Mr Blakeley's departure for Auckland. Further eulogistic references to Mr Blakeley's work were made by Mr F. Anderson, Mr B. C. Burns, Mr Geo. Callender, and the Rev. Alan Watson. A leather music case and two books were given to the guest of the evening as mementoes from his friends in the congregation.
